Aveos Restructuring -District 140 Bulletin #48

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
Aveos Restructuring

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

On April 2 and 3 in Montreal, Transportation District 140 General Chairperson Fred Hospes and our legal counsel from Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre & Cornish, Hugh O’Reilly, met with interested investors seeking to restructure Aveos Fleet Performance.

The Machinists union has a vested interest to work with potential investors interested in restructuring Aveos Fleet Performance. Approximately 2600 of our members in Canada lost their jobs when the company ceased operations abruptly on March 18, 2012, and we want to ensure highly skilled airframe maintenance, engine maintenance and component maintenance jobs remain within Canada in the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia.

Your union is committed to working jointly with any investor that is committed to restructuring a viable company specialized in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in Canada that meets the needs of workers, community interests, business interests and the interests of all stakeholders. However, in order to ensure that an investment restructuring plan is successful, operations need to resume immediately. This may require government support at all levels, both federally and provincially.

In solidarity,

Chuck Atkinson
President and Directing General Chairperson
