Attention Air Canada – Canadian MRO’s can compete!

Wednesday June 8, 2016

For Immediate Release
Montréal, QC – “Air Canada can find competitive aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facilities in Canada if it would only look,” said IAM Transportation District Lodge 140 President and Directing General Chairperson Fred Hospes. “Air Wisconsin just signed an exclusive contract with Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions on Montréal as the engine MRO provider for its Bombardier CRJ200 fleet. This is the same aircraft used by Air Canada Jazz.”

Hospes pointed to testimony given by Air Canada Representatives last month before the Parliamentary Transportation Committee concerning Bill C-10 – the changes to the Air Canada Public Participation Act. The original Act required Air Canada to perform its aircraft heavy maintenance in Winnipeg, Mississauga and Montreal. Air Canada insisted the Act in its original form prevented it from being competitive. When asked by the committee why Air Canada chose not to perform its aircraft heavy maintenance with Canadian MRO’s, airline representatives said they weren’t aware there were any.

“The high level of skilled expertise, combined with the competitive edge our Lockheed Martin members bring to the MRO engine and repair overhaul business, are testimony that we can hold our own in the MRO industry in Canada,” said Hospes.

The Air Wisconsin contract is the second major and exclusive contract won this year by the Montréal facility.
Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions Montréal facility provides MRO and test as well as component and part repairs for commercial engines that power the CRJ-200, D-8, 707, A320 and 737 aircraft.
