Summary of Our Week at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center
During our week at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center, members
from all local lodges representing all job classifications got together to get ready for negotiating
the next contract.

Key highlights of the week include:

• A detailed presentation on collective bargaining, where we learned the do’s and don’ts of
the negotiation process;
• The creation of short, medium, and long-term strategic plans to guide our efforts;
• Development of a survey designed to assess and improve our working conditions;
• A training session on Microsoft Excel to assist with pay scale analysis during
negotiations;
• Workshops on evaluating the balance of power between the company and union
members;
• Design of a mobilization plan to effectively engage our members;
• Formulation of a communication plan to ensure ongoing transparency with members
throughout the negotiation process;
• An overview of strategic resources and support available from both the Canadian and
International offices of the IAM;
• Training on drafting and modifying proposals to better articulate our goals during
negotiations;
• We also participated in simulated negotiation sessions to enhance our skills to learn how
to defend those propositions.

Throughout the week, we remained focused on our ultimate goal: securing the industry-leading
contract for our members. Now, it’s time for all of us to put our shoulders to the wheel and work
toward achieving our goal.

FROM COAST TO COAST, LETS GET THERE TOGETHER!
