TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA TMOS
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Further to District Lodge 140 bulletin number 48 issued on October 25th, your Union has learned that
Air Canada is moving ahead with their intention to “rehire” retirees in the Airports/Cargo category.
It is the Districts’ understanding that the Company re-commenced contacting retirees as recently as
Friday November 5th, despite your Union’s on-going objection to their plan.
While DL140 remains fundamentally opposed to this unilateral action, it is understood that such
employment will be considered term (temporary) employment, and subject to the terms and
conditions of the Collective Agreement.
Article 16.16.02 makes clear that employees hired for term employment shall not establish seniority
within the classification(s) concerned. Incumbent active Members can rest assured that no special
seniority privileges will be granted to rehired retirees.
That being said, any retiree contemplating accepting an offer of term employment should be aware of
the realities of the situation as per our Collective Agreement.
It is very likely that many, if not all term employees will be placed on relief schedules, without the
ability to select shifts and subject to unlimited shift schedule changes with seventy-two (72) hours’
It is strongly recommended that prospective term employees ensure they are provided with adequate
winter weather work apparel including rain gear, parkas, CSA certified rain boots and of course, knee
