TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
EMPLOYED BY AIR CANADA
AIR CANADA VACATIONS GIFT CERTIFICATE
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It has been brought to your Union’s attention that Air Canada’s Executives have decided to only
recognize certain Members of the IAMAW Air Canada Bargaining Unit with a five hundred dollar
($500.00) Air Canada Vacations Gift Certificate for working in inclement weather conditions over the
Holidays Season. Unfortunately, they failed to recognize the entire IAMAW Air Canada Bargaining
Unit for their contributions of ensuring that Air Canada cargo reached its destination in a timely
manner, that customers’ baggage reached its destination safely and in a timely manner, that aircraft
were cleaned with limited time before departure, or the additional aircraft maintenance that was
carried out.
In a nutshell, Air Canada’s Executives excluded recognizing a significant number of our Bargaining
Unit Members throughout the country for their contribution of providing critical operational support
ensuring that the airline operated efficiently during difficult inclement weather conditions. The IAMAW
commends Air Canada’s Executives for recognizing the difficulties that our Members endure during
uncontrollable events however, it is unimaginable that they failed to recognize that it takes team work
throughout the country when an uncontrollable event takes place in one or more stations.
Your Union was not advised by Air Canada of their intentions regarding this matter, nor did they give
the Union an opportunity to provide input into this decision making process. In fact, the Union was
made aware of this decision by our Members after the Company advised certain Members of the
Bargaining Unit that they would be receiving an Air Canada Vacations Gift Certificate. The Union has
since contacted Air Canada representatives and raised a number of concerns regarding the
Company’s rationale of only recognizing certain employees of the Bargaining Unit as opposed to all
Members of the Bargaining Unit. However, the response we received was unsatisfactory.
Our Members should be reminded that a common tactic used by corporations is to give one working
group something over another group. This tactic is known as “divide and conquer”. Do not be fooled
by this type of corporate tactic.
The IAMAW has advised Air Canada that all of our Members should be recognized with Air Canada
Vacations Gift Certificates for their contributions of providing critical operational support and ensuring
that the airline operated efficiently during difficult, inclement weather conditions throughout the
country.

AIR CANADA VACATIONS GIFT CERTIFICATE
FEBRUARY 16, 2018
Our Members are encouraged to participate in the “Give it Back” Campaign by dropping off their Air
Canada Vacation voucher at their local Shop Stewards office. The vouchers will then be collected
nationally and presented back to Air Canada’s Executives with a concise “thanks but no thanks”
message unless they rectify the unfairness of this gesture as an injustice to one is an injustice to all.
As the old slogan goes “United we bargain, divided we beg”. Which position do you want to be in?
As more information becomes available regarding this matter, it will be communicated.
In Solidarity,
Keith Aiken, General Chairperson
