TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA – TMOS NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
After one final attempt at mediation on February 10th and 11th, it is abundantly clear that Air Canada is not prepared to engage in meaningful negotiations with your TMOS Bargaining Committees. A mediated settlement was not reached.
Despite the employers’ contention that they desire a fair deal ratified by the membership, their actions tell a very different story. Broken commitments, unnecessary delays, and cancelled meeting dates have been a common theme in this round of so- called bargaining.
Their disinterest in the process has been overt and they have made no apologies for it. It is unclear exactly why they have demonstrated such contempt for their TMOS employees, but the attitude is certainly not consistent with the spirit of Air Canada’s platitudinal “Flight Path” values.
It appears that Air Canada failed to read the memo that we are no longer engaged in CCAA style concessionary bargaining. It is 2020, not 2004 and this company continues to enjoy record profits year after year.
In defiance of the company’s concerted effort to divide TMOS, your committees remained unified. They will not succeed in driving a wedge. We are focused, strong and prepared for the final stage of this process, binding interest arbitration. The arbitrator is tentatively looking at dates in March 2020.
