TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA – NATIONAL GRIEVANCES
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Your General Chairpersons continued the fight at national arbitration hearings
yesterday. As many of the national grievances are more complex than usual, the
national process tends to be protracted.
Although taking longer than expected, we are concluding matters and are very happy
to report that Arbitrator Christine Schmidt has upheld the extensive shift bid grievances
submitted across every region.
In her award dated December 21st, Arbitrator Schmidt has directed Air Canada to
implement shift bids in compliance with all applicable areas of the Collective
Agreement including MOA 12 – compression levels.
The Arbitrator has deferred the matter of remedy back to the Union and the employer
for now. If an acceptable resolution is not achieved the matter will be brought back to
Ms. Schmidt in late January.
Please have a very safe, happy and healthy Holiday Season.
In solidarity,
Steve Prinz
