TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
WORKING FOR AIR CANADA
WAGE INCREASE
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Air Canada announced that it will be increasing
the starting salary to $21.11 for Station Attendants in Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto only.
This is set to take effect immediately in response to a high hiring demand within these regions.
Although, we applaud the Company for increasing the salary to that of a living wage
in these select cities and agree that a living wage is essential in today’s economy,
we cannot agree with creating an additional tier system that further divides our
Membership and leaves so many others earning far below a fair living standard.
The IAM&AW requested that all cities be included in the increase. Unfortunately, this request was denied.
Although, ambiguous language exists within the CBA regarding this,
the Union has maintained that the CBA is one of a national scope and should apply to all bases.
Equality should be applied to all Members.
We wish to advise the Membership that we will make this issue one of high importance
in future rounds of bargaining, in the hope of bringing such equality back to the
hard-working Membership that helps make this Company the World leader it is.
We thank you for the feedback you have provided, and we are currently reviewing what steps may be taken.
In solidarity,
Dave Flowers
