Just hours after the federal government introduced back-to-work legislation, Air Canada and the Canadian Autoworkers Union have reached a tentative deal.
No details were immediately available, but the CAW has called a news conference for 2 p.m. Thursday.
CAW spokeswoman Shannon Devine confirmed the deal, but said nothing else would be released until the briefing.
Just after the strike began, Labour Minister Lisa Raitt had announced the Harper government would legislate the 3,800 customer service workers back to work.
In response, the CAW’s leader blasted the government intervention, accusing the Harper government of “collusion” with the airline.
The strike, which began at midnight Monday, has been focused on pensions including protecting the benefits of current members.
The union also vehemently opposed a proposal to switch new hires to a defined contribution plan from the current defined benefit one.
