ARBITRATION VICTORY – PROTECTING MEMBERS SCOPE WORK

TO ALL IAM MEMBERS – AIR CANADA

OCTOBER 20, 2025

ANOTHER ONE!

ARBITRATION VICTORY – PROTECTING MEMBERS SCOPE WORK

Brothers and Sisters,

I am pleased to report another arbitration victory in our ongoing efforts to protect
bargaining unit work and defend the rights of every IAM member. The Arbitrator has
ruled in our favor in the recent scope work grievance, finding that the Company did
not meet its burden of proof when management personnel performed work belonging
to our members. The full award is attached for your review.

In his decision, the Arbitrator made it clear that the Company carries the full
responsibility to ensure bargaining unit work remains with our members. He
stated that the employer must be able to demonstrate thorough planning, proper
staffing, and full use of overtime provisions before resorting to any alternative
measures. This ruling reinforces the principle that the Company must take all
reasonable and proactive steps to prevent any infringement on bargaining unit
jurisdiction.

Importantly, the Arbitrator also noted that if similar issues continue and the Union can
establish a pattern of violations, he will consider damages or additional remedies
in future cases. This sends a strong message that further disregard for our members’
work will not be tolerated.

As part of the remedy, eight (8) hours of overtime pay were awarded. The Union will
direct how this payment is to be allocated.

This outcome represents another solid step forward in protecting what we’ve built
together. Every case we win reinforces the strength of our collective agreement and
our commitment to ensuring that IAM members perform IAM work.

In Solidarity,
Mahmoud Khatib
General Chairperson
IAM – District 140
