Below is the letter of support for Aveos from Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.
April 11, 2012
I am writing to urge your government to take fmmediate action to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act to ensure that skilled workers laid off by Aveos Fleet Performance Inc.
(Aveos) are awarded the same job protection as their counterparts in Mississauga, Winnipeg and Montreal. This reflects the unanimous view of the BC Legislature, which debated the matter March 29.
These workers form an important part of Greater Vancouver’s skilled aviation workforce, which is itself an important element of the provincial economy. More than 350 workers face job loss in the Greater Vancouver area.
I endorse the March 23 Communique of the Mayors of Montreal, Winnipeg and Mississauga urging you to convene a meeting of all parties concerned to protect these 3,500 important, well paying jobs.
Sincerely,
Gregor Robertson
