District Bulletin #8 -Air Canada Low-Cost Carrier Steering Committee

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW WORKING FOR AIR CANADA

Air Canada Low-Cost Carrier Steering Committee

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

On December 18, 2012, Air Canada publicly announced its intention to launch a new Low-Cost Carrier (LCC). The new carrier is to be called Air Canada Rouge and will start up service on July 1, 2013 with two B767 and two A319 aircraft that will come from Air Canada’s mainline fleet.

The long-range plan for Rouge is to expand to a fleet of 50 B767 and A319 aircraft that will be released from the Air Canada mainline fleet as the new B787 aircraft arrive. On November 29, 2012, the IAMAW was given a high-level roll down of the new Rouge LCC by Air Canada senior management.

At the last District Lodge 140 convention, a motion was passed to form a steering committee that would look at potential impacts on our members with the formation of the LCC.

The first meeting was held on January 23, 2013 at the Transportation District 140 office in Toronto.

The District 140 LCC steering committee met to review and study any and all possible impacts of the new Rouge LCC on our membership.

The District 140 LCC Steering Committee is comprised of General Chairpersons from Transportation District 140, IAMAW Grand Lodge representatives and representatives from all IAMAW Local Lodges representing Air Canada members.

The IAMAW fully expects that Air Canada will request to meet in the near future to provide a more detailed explanation of its plans for the new Rouge LCC.

The IAMAW is committed to protecting the scope of our work for all of our bargaining units and preserving the Collective Agreements of all IAMAW Air Canada employees.

The IAMAW appreciates your continued support and as more information regarding this matter becomes available, it will be communicated to the membership.

President and Directing General Chairperson
