SKY REGIONAL AIRLINES

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

On March 20, 2013 Transportation District 140 General Chairpersons held a meeting with our legal counsel regarding Air Canada’s Sky Regional Airlines.

Air Canada has stated in a letter, dated March 13, 2013, that our IAMAW Air Canada Members will perform Sky Regional ground handling ramp functions for a two (2) year period under a service contract with Sky Regional Airlines and that the cabin grooming services will discontinue effective March 14, 2013.

Since the start up of Sky Regional Airlines, your Union has taken the position that Sky Regional Airlines is under the control and direction of Air Canada and is a common employer, so that all IAMAW Bargaining Unit work falls within our Bargaining Unit jurisdictions.

Although much of the work is to remain within our Units for the next two (2) years, in order to protect your rights, your Union will be filing a Common Employer Application with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), in addition to filing grievances, as we are committed to protecting the jurisdiction of work that rightfully belongs to our Members under our Collective Agreements and bargaining rights. However, please understand that there may be a long road ahead of us.

As more information becomes available regarding this matter it will be communicated.

In Solidarity,

Fred Hospes, President and
Directing General Chairperson
Transportation District 140, IAM & AW

Tony Didoshak,
General Chairperson
Transportation District 140, IAM & AW
