TRAGEDY AT HALIFAX INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -District Bulletin #64

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW

TRAGEDY AT HALIFAX INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you all today.

The IAMAW membership and the entire Airport community at the Halifax International Airport are in mourning over the loss of one of our own.

On June 14, 2013 at 0430, Local Lodge 2797 IAMAW member and Servisair employee, Bobby Horne, was killed on the job after becoming trapped in a hydraulic baggage loader.

Brother Horne was a very seasoned and long-time ramp attendant with over twenty-five (25) years of service with many Ground Handling employers.

We all work in a very dangerous environment and accidents such as this could involve any of us. A tragedy can occur in a split second.

We must reflect upon his death, from coast to coast. Take the required time to assure that you are all working safely every moment you are on the ramp or hangar.

Watch out for yourselves and for your brothers and sisters.

“It’s better to lose one minute in life
than to lose life in a minute”

Yours in solidarity,

Ken Russell
General Chairperson
Atlantic Region
