Relocation of the Planning Department and Expeditor Position

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

On November 13, 2013, District 140 and the Maintenance Shop Committee met with the company to obtain more information on the relocation of the License Planner and Planner positions at the new Operations Center in Brampton, Ontario. Also discussed was the relocation of some of the Line Expeditor positions in Toronto.

We have received confirmation from the department managers that these positions would be relocated at the new Operations Center by attrition and on a gradual basis (retirement, resignation, etc.) They have also reiterated their intention not to proceed to any lay-off in these categories and that no member would loose his/her job.

The union has requested the company to give priority to Montreal members wishing to transfer at the new Center. We have advised management that a grief to ensure the application of Letter of Understanding No. 7 (Station Closures / Centralization of Work) had been filed and will be referred to arbitration on December 13, 2013.

We will keep you informed of any developments in this matter.

In Solidarity,

Michel Richer
General Chairperson – Eastern Region
