AIR CANADA OUTSOURCING JOBS OUTSIDE CANADA AGAIN
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
On July 14, Air Canada notified our members working in the Air Canada Finance Department in Winnipeg that it will be OUTSOURCING the entire payroll department to IBM. This will include all payroll and human resources functions WITH THE EXCEPTION OF FUNCTIONS RELATED TO THE EXECUTIVE PAYROLL.
Air Canada intends to send these jobs OFFSHORE to Manila, in the Philippines.
Such a move will eliminate employment for twenty-seven finance agents.
The company has stated that this move will result in savings of $4.4 million over a seven-year period. Coincidently, this amount represents almost exactly what CEO Calin Rovinescu recently received as his bonus.
Air Canada stated that “this is what is best for the company.”
Is this what is best for the Finance Agents who have made enormous sacrifices to ensure that this company survive the last decade?
Is this what is best for the Canadian public who are seeing MORE AND MORE of
their jobs sent offshore?
This is an embarrassment for Air Canada, and all Canadians should be outraged at this never-ending ploy to fill the pockets of the greedy executives of this company.
The IAMAW will fight this travesty every step of the way.
In solidarity,
Chuck Atkinson
President and Directing General Chairperson
