Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The last few weeks have been very stressful for those Members that are currently held out of service
due to their vaccine status, and Air Canada’s recent notification to terminate their employment effective May 2nd, 2022.
Given the urgency of the situation, your Union immediately sought dialogue with Air Canada
and elected officials in Ottawa in an attempt to secure less drastic measures.
District Lodge 140 attended several meetings with various political parties to clarify
why the Federal Government is not following the example of the Provinces with regard
to vaccine mandates and Covid-19 restrictions.
We have also secured a petition sponsored in the House of Commons to address this situation (Petition e- 3934).
Air Canada subsequently advised the IAMAW, they will rescind recently sent emails informing
non- compliant Members they would be terminated at the beginning of May.
For the moment, although affected Members are still not able to return to work,
their leaves of absence have been extended until November
and our original policy grievances will remain.
Your Union will continue dialogue with Air Canada and elected officials to seek a more favorable remedy,
and we continue to encourage all of our Members to contact their respective
elected Government representatives to voice their concerns.
In solidarity,
Dave Flowers
