March 10, 2022
Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Air Canada has issued a final notice to IAMAW members who have not complied
with the Company’s mandatory vaccine policy. Air Canada has notified employees
who remain non-compliant that they will be discharged as of May 2nd, 2022.
The IAMAW has confirmed with the council of Unions this result will be applied
across all bargaining units at Air Canada.
At this time, there are just over 300 IAMAW members who are affected by the policy change.
At such time if Air Canada pursues these terminations, impacted members should contact
your local Shop Committee Representative(s) to file a wrongful dismissal appeal.
While District Lodge140 continues to challenge the mandatory vaccine policy via the national grievance procedure,
it must be noted several provincial legislative bodies have started reducing and/or
eliminating Covid-19 restrictions and even allowing non-vaccinated employees back to work.
Unfortunately, the federal government continues to issue new Minister of Transport interim orders.
To help your Union in this fight against injustice, your Union recommends that our membership reach
out to their Member of Parliament to denounce this deplorable action and demand why the federal government
is not working in concert with the provincial authorities to make sure you are able to safely
come back to work like our provincially regulated colleagues!
As more information becomes available, we will inform the membership.
In solidarity,
