RE: SHIFT TRADES AND POSITIVE PAY
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Transportation District 140, IAMAW has just received the email this week that had been sent out to the membership dealing with limitations on shift trades and positive pay. The Union had no prior knowledge that the Company was going to implement any changes surrounding shift trades until we concluded the arbitration process.
On June 16, 2015 your Union (GC’s and Shop Committees) along with Counsel met with the Company and Arbitrator Stephen Raymond to try and come to a resolve on proposed “Shift Trade Rule Changes” implemented by Air Canada. During this meeting your Union presented and was successful in achieving the following:
1. The Company will zero all employees shift trade hours to make the implementation fair and equitable across the system.
2. The Company will allow the minimum rest of 7 hours for shift trades.
3. The Company will allow the time bank to be -24 to +170 to try and mitigate positive pay on a voluntary basis, the existing time bank will still be available. Details of the Shift Trade Time bank should be provided by the Company in the near future.
We continued to advise the company and the Arbitrator that the bargaining table was the correct venue for this issue and the Shift Trades Policy should remain status quo and Positive Pay should not be implemented until we have concluded bargaining.
All outstanding matters will be dealt with in the upcoming IAMAW / Air Canada negotiations.
Transportation District 140 and the Shop Committees appreciate your patience and support during these difficult times.
In Solidarity,
