Local 2323 & District Lodge 140 -Election Campaign Regulations – Reminder To All Members

OCTOBER 24, 2019

LOCAL LODGE 2323
AND DISTRICT LODGE 140
ELECTION CAMPAIGN REGULATIONS
REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS

In my capacity as President of Local Lodge 2323, I have received several complaints
from members advising that they have been approached by certain candidates for the
upcoming Local Lodge 2323 and District Lodge 140 elections who have been
campaigning during their regular scheduled work hours. This is a direct violation of
Canadian IAMAW Election rules and regulations.

This notice serves as a reminder to all members, candidates and their active supporters
that they must remain in compliance with ALL terms and conditions of Grand Lodge
Circular 869 – Canadian Election and Other Requirements through the entirety of
the campaign period.

At the September 3, 2019 Local Lodge 2323 nomination meeting, all candidates were
furnished with copies of Grand Lodge Circulars 865, 868 and 869. All candidates were
encouraged to read all four documents with particular emphasis on the rules governing
candidate and supporter conduct during the campaign period and on election day as
detailed in GLC869.

I would like to draw members’ attention to Grand Lodge Circular 869, Section C. –
Use of Union or Employer Funds in Elections is Prohibited, Item 4. Which states:

4. Candidates and their supporters are required to campaign on their own
time only. Campaigning while on pay status with the union or with the
employer is prohibited.

Candidates who are found to be in violation of any rule or requirement of GLC869 can
be deemed by Grand Lodge as being ineligible to hold elected office.

I would also remind members that engaging in any activities other than your normally
assigned work duties during regularly scheduled working hours without the express
permission of the employer may be considered as time theft by the employer.

In Solidarity,

Dave Flowers,
President
IAMAW Local Lodge 2323
