NATIONAL ARBITRATION HEARING – SEPTEMBER 9, 2020 -District 140 Bulletin #48

TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA – TMOS AND CLERICAL

NATIONAL ARBITRATION HEARING –
SEPTEMBER 9, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

A national arbitration was held in the presence of Arbitrator Corinn Bell on September 9th
with Air Canada where 2 cases were heard.

The first grievance (No. 202005105194) is an issue with Air Canada with regards to the
cancellation of PVA awards after they were issued because of the Covid19 pandemic. The
Union and the Company were able to come to a settlement to address the affected members
that were denied their rights to these positions. The individuals who are affected by this
situation will be contacted by the Union to inform them of their choices.

The other grievance (No. 202004104252) was with regards to the Clerical bargaining unit as
bumping rights in that group were delayed while the CEWS program was in effect until June
6th. Given the unique context of the situation with regards to CEWS, we chose to retain legal
counsel. Our counsel is still in discussion with Air Canada as we believe an agreement is
close. If we are unable to reach an agreement, Arbitrator Bell will be available to arbitrate a
decision.

The District 140 would like to thank the membership for its continuing patience as we work
towards getting our members’ rights respected through these precarious Covid times. If there
are any questions with regards to the 2 grievances, please feel free to contact your shop
committees or myself by email at glingat@iam140.ca or by phone at 514-336-3031 ext. 225.

In solidarity,

Guillaume Lingat
General Chairperson
