A proposed amendment to a Local Lodge bylaw was read out (1st Reading) at the General Membership Meeting on October 3rd 2023 and will be posted on the bulletin boards as per the bylaws. The proposed amendment for the current by-law will then be read out (2nd Reading) at the next General Membership Meeting on November 07, 2023, where the members can discuss and then vote on the new amendment.
Below is the bylaw to be presented:
ARTICLE AS CURRENTLY WRITTEN:
Section 3. (a) The monthly dues of this Lodge shall be a uniform rate equal to one (1) times the weighted average hourly earnings of members covered by the collective bargaining agreements under the Local Lodge jurisdiction in accordance with the IAM Constitution, plus Grand Lode per capita charges, District 140 per capita charges and all IAM mandatory affiliation per capita charges (OFL, OPCM, CMC).
The dues shall be adjusted on January 1 of each year and shall be based on the hourly earnings in effect on the preceding 31st day of October.
PROPOSED CHANGE: ARTICLE XIX – MEMBERSHIP, FEES, DUES AND ASSESSMENTS: 3 (a)
Section 3. (a) The monthly dues of this Lodge shall be the Grand Lodge per capita charges, District 140 per capita charges and all IAM Mandatory affiliation per capita charges (OFL, OPCM, CMC), and Local Lodge 2323 portion, plus .50 cents. The dues shall be adjusted on January 1 of each year.
INTENT OF CHANGE:
To get away from the weighted average which would increase the dues to a much higher rate. The current weighted average is $27.81. With the current bylaw in place with the way it is written our dues would be $89.42 as of January 1, 2023.
$61.61 (per capita/affiliation fees) plus $27.81 (weighted average) for a total of $89.42
The smaller increase will allow members some breathing room as our pay has not increased in many years.
