TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
Till next time
Dear brothers and sisters,
Today, September 21, was my last day as general chairperson of District 140.
I would like to say that it was a pleasure representing you and defending your rights and interests throughout these last years, first as vice president of Local Lodge 1751 and then as general chairperson of District 140. The battles we fought together have made me realize the importance of solidarity in our society, especially at a time when companies and governments seem to be ruled by greed.
The Government of Québec’s case against Air Canada will be heard on November 19. The purpose of this legal proceeding is to oblige Air Canada to respect the Air Canada Public Participation Act and force the company to take back the heavy maintenance work it transferred to Aveos.
As for me, I will be part of the new government in a role that will be determined in the next few weeks. One thing is certain: You can count on me to make sure that this battle is fought until the very end.
In solidarity,
Jean Poirier
