APPLICATION TO MINISTER OF LABOUR
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The General Chairpersons representing Members from the TMOS, Finance and Clerical
Bargaining Units have been working exhaustively to process and resolve all outstanding
grievances, including those flowing from Off Duty Status (ODS) and Lay-off.
Air Canada has been working equally hard to delay agreed to processes and ultimately delay
justice. The Company is defiantly refusing to advance urgent grievances to arbitration. The
level of frustration this is causing the Membership is not acceptable.
As a result of Air Canada’s contempt for our Collective Agreement, the Committee of General
Chairpersons at District Lodge 140 had no choice but to pursue extraordinary measures.
Pursuant to Section 57(4) of the Canada Labour Code, on November 9th Transportation
District 140 made an application to the Minister of Labour for appointment of an arbitrator to
resolve outstanding grievance matters.
On November 12th, the IAMAW Canadian Office & Transportation District 140 filed a joint
application pursuant to Section 57(4) of the Canada Labour Code to the Minister of Labour for
the appointment of arbitrators to resolve outstanding grievance matters.
We are awaiting guidance from the Minister’s office and will be providing updates when
information arises.
