TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA
ONE CATEGORY GRIEVANCES
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On December 21, 2020, the IAMAW attended arbitration to have outstanding national issues
heard, including the one-category grievances filed on behalf of members who were denied
recall into Cabin Servicing & Cleaning Attendant classifications.
During the hearing, the parties entered into the mediation process with the assistance of
Arbitrator Schmidt. It became apparent that Air Canada was unwilling to resolve the dispute
via mediation.
At that time Arbitrator Schmidt arranged a case management call for January 12, 2021, to
discuss the next steps. During that call Air Canada requested a full evidentiary hearing,
which is available to either party as per the Collective Agreement.
Arbitrator Schmidt is seized on the matter and has advised that due to the complexity of
the issue a two (2) to three (3) day hearing will be required.
The grievances are now scheduled to be heard on June 28 and 29, 2021, with an optional
date of July 5, 2021, reserved if required.
In an attempt to have these matters heard earlier, your District Lodge 140 General
Chairpersons offered to be available any time including evenings and weekends, but the
Arbitrator could not work that into her busy schedule. The District also requested to be
placed on a cancelation list.
Further updates will be provided, when information becomes available.
In solidarity,
Steve Prinz
