AIR CANADA
SHIFT BID GRIEVANCES REMEDY
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Happy New Year to all!
As you will recall, the various shift bid related grievances were upheld at arbitration in
December 2020. As part of her award, Arbitrator Schmidt referred the issue of remedy back to
the parties while remaining seized of the matter.
With the assistance of legal counsel, your Union has been working hard in the background to
achieve the best outcome possible for the Membership. Unfortunately, the employer is using
every mechanism at their disposal to delay and frustrate the process.
DL140 was hopeful the matter would be concluded in November of 2021, but the Company
found yet another avenue to setback the agenda. With the assistance of Arbitrator Schmidt, a
schedule has now been set for 2022, with a final hearing date confirmed for September 29th.
In addition to Air Canada’s contempt for our grievance procedure, many Arbitrators continue to
have limited availability for the foreseeable future. These realities are directly contributing to the
significant backlog of current grievances.
Your Committee of General Chairpersons is pushing hard to ensure sufficient arbitration dates for
2022 and beyond.
Further updates will be provided when they become available.
In solidarity,
Steve Prinz
