TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA TMOS
RETIRE “REHIRE”
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Air Canada approached the Committee of General Chairpersons and sought the Union’s agreement to rehire recent retirees for term (temporary) employment for a period not to exceed 6 months.
After a cautious evaluation, your Union identified a myriad of concerns with the Company’s proposal that were simply not acceptable.
On Friday October 22nd, DL140 advised Air Canada Labour Relations that the IAMAW would not support their proposal.
Unfortunately, the Company elected to commence bargaining directly with retirees without the agreement or blessing of the IAMAW.
As a result, your Union is obligated to advise our Membership that we did not support this initiative and have not entered into any agreement(s).
At this time, we are recommending that our retirees should not consider accepting any proposal of term employment and we will be keeping a close eye on any/all developments.
In solidarity,
Steve Prinz
