TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT 140 MEMBERS -AIR CANADA -MANDATORY VACCINE -District 140 Bulletin

TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT 140 MEMBERS
AIR CANADA
MANDATORY VACCINE

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

As communicated in our last bulletin on the matter (District 140 bulletin # 36 issued August
18th, 2021), the IAMAW sent letters to employers in the federal sector in air transportation
requesting meetings to discuss the matter of mandatory vaccinations, prior to any policies
being created.

We are firm in our position that our involvement is critical in creating a policy that is
reasonable, fair, non-discriminatory and consistent with law. We are also adamant that
member’s rights to privacy and human rights considerations must be taken into account,
especially with respect to certain exemptions.

Unfortunately, Air Canada denied the Union’s request to participate and has chosen to
create and distribute their own policy to all employees without consultation. We are not
refuting the importance of vaccines in keeping us safe and our industry stable,
however, we are concerned that the invasiveness of vaccines and the mandate to
vaccinate is being overlooked. Mandating vaccines should only be done when no
alternate solutions (that reach the same objectives) are present.

It is our belief that meetings that include our involvement would be advantageous to both
parties and would avoid possible lengthy litigations that will undoubtedly come in the form
of challenges to the policy they have created on their own.

The Union is disappointed with the Company’s decision and is in discussion with
legal counsel on all possible legal challenges.

As more information becomes available, we will communicate with our membership.

In solidarity,

Dave Flowers
President & Directing General Chairperson
