TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
AIR CANADA – CLERICAL
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
The Clerical Transition Committee representatives met in Winnipeg with both Aveos and Air Canada last week on July 11, 12, 13 and 14.
Several issues, such as those relating to the company’s request to test the qualifications of employees who will move laterally and outstanding grievances on positions filled by out-of-scope personnel, have not yet been resolved. For this reason, we will proceed to arbitration with these issues next August 12 in Montreal.
We have requested from the two companies the dates of employee movement, but they are not yet able to confirm them.
As for filling vacant positions, the companies have informed us that they plan to start the review process this week.
The Clerical Transition Committee and Winnipeg Finance met with Aveos to discuss the four new positions described in the Transition Memorandum of Agreement, Schedule 2, Points 5 and 6:
5. Aveos shall create, as of the Transition Date, at least (4) positions within the Clerical bargaining unit in its Montreal, Quebec, offices to perform the duties currently performed for its benefit by Winnipeg Finance Employees;
6. Before hiring any other employees, Aveos shall offer to hire, as of the Transition Date, qualified Winnipeg Finance Employees, in seniority order and with full recognition of their seniority, in the positions referred to in paragraph 5, above.
We reviewed the above with Aveos and are waiting for the company’s response on our proposal.
The TMOS bargaining unit has a no-layoff provision because Air Canada will be sub-contracting some of its aircraft. However, this does not apply to the Clerical bargaining unit.
We will continue to update you as things develop.
