Aveos – Divestiture Process -District Bulletin #62

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
Aveos – Divestiture Process

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

The IAMAW has been advised that the Aveos divestiture process is being extended to allow potential investors to finalize their bids. There are investors interested in submitting bids to purchase the component and engine shops in Montréal and the wheel & brake shop in Mississauga.

It appears that Air Canada is not fulfilling its commitments to the federal and provincial governments, to the terminated Aveos employees and to all other interested stakeholders since it is not assisting the divestiture process aimed at attracting investors to purchase the Airframe Maintenance businesses in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal.

In fact, it is actively pursuing to find new Airframe Maintenance providers in other countries.

Should the Airframe Maintenance business not sell through the divestiture process, Air Canada will be in violation of the Air Canada Participation Act. The federal and provincial governments must ensure that Air Canada complies with the laws of this country. Governments cannot take a back seat and allow Air Canada to violate the laws of this country and decimate a highly skilled aviation industry in Canada in order to meet its corporate agenda.

All levels of government must advise Air Canada to comply with the Air Canada Participation Act and fully assist in the divestiture process in order to find suitable Airframe investors willing to resume operations in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, or to restart these businesses itself.

Should Government leaders choose to take a backseat approach and allow Air Canada to violate Canadian laws, then they should accept to seek new employment through the electoral process.

In solidarity,

Chuck Atkinson
