TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAM & AW
AVEOS SHUTDOWN & CCAA FILING
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
I write this bulletin today, not just as a Union Representative, but as a friend and colleague.
The largest tragedy in Canadian aviation history resulted in the termination of thousands of jobs this past week due to Aveos’ and Air Canada’s broken promises and deception to thousands of Canadian aviation employees employed at Aveos Fleet Performance.
There are no words to describe the corporate genocide that occurred on March 18, 2012. Thousands of families across Canada have been devastated as a result of Aveos ceasing their aviation operations in Canada.
The Aveos Members, whose lives have been devastated by these actions, are looking to the IAM & AW for leadership, direction and most of all, answers. At this time there are more questions than there are answers. Transportation District 140 is attempting to obtain accurate information to communicate to our Aveos Members.
In order to obtain up-to-date information regarding Aveos’ filing for CCAA protection and ceasing operations in Canada, please visit Transportation District 140’s website and/or your Local Lodge website for updates.
The EAP program is available to assist our Aveos Members and their families through this very trying and troubling time. Should you require EAP assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your local EAP Representative. EAP contact information can be found on Transportation District 140’s website and your Local Lodge websites.
On behalf of Transportation District 140 and the Members we represent, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Local Lodge Executive Boards, Shop Committees and Federal and Provincial Politicians for their assistance and support during these very difficult times.
In Solidarity,
Fred Hospes,
Regional Assistant Directing General Chairperson – Western Region
