Meeting with Air Canada on Aveos Bankruptcy -District 140 Bulletin #46

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
Meeting with Air Canada on Aveos Bankruptcy

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

In an effort to answer some of the questions that have arisen since the bankruptcy of Aveos, Air Canada Labour Relations met with District Lodge 140 General Chairmen last Wednesday, March 28. Aveos elected not to attend this meeting and stated that their lawyers would deal with any and all issues that involve them.

The Union asked Air Canada if they were interested in getting back into the Heavy Maintenance business and the answer was the same as it was during the arbitration hearing of March 12: They no longer want to be in the heavy maintenance business and have no obligation to do so. Whether or not Air Canada has an obligation will be determined in a future arbitration hearing.

Concerning the issue of severance pay owed by Air Canada, this is being dealt through the legal process.

The Company informed the Union that the pension monies for the members who transferred to Aveos have not been transferred and remain in the master account. How these monies will be dealt with will be discussed with the Air Canada pension committee. As for the Aveos pension, it will be dealt with by our legal representatives.

Air Canada also informed us that an MOA dealing with the issue of other airline passes has been agreed to and should be signed soon.

The question concerning the aircraft that are still in Vancouver and Montreal is going to be dealt with through the Aveos Chief Restructuring Officer.

Further arbitration hearings are scheduled and we will continue to keep you informed.

For more information on the subjects that were discussed during our meeting with Air Canada Labour

Relations, please refer to bulletin no. 44.

In solidarity,

Tony Didoshak
General Chairperson, Western Region
