TMOS UPDATE: THE CIRB ISSUED A DECISION ON AMFA’S LATEST ATTEMPT TO STALL OR POSTPONE BARGAINING AT AIR CANADA

TO ALL IAM UNION MEMBERS AIR CANADA TMOS UPDATE: THE CIRB ISSUED A DECISION ON AMFA’S LATEST ATTEMPT TO STALL OR POSTPONE BARGAINING AT AIR CANADA

Sisters, Brothers, and Siblings:

In November 2025, the IAM committed to serve formal notice to bargain to Air Canada over the first few weeks of 2026.

On December 22, 2025, AMFA, filed an application for interim relief to the CIRB, in an attempt to prohibit the IAM and its members from bargaining at the conclusion of the current collective agreement. They asked the CIRB to prohibit the IAM from serving our intent to bargain.
The CIRB then gave the IAM until December 29th, 2025 to file a response. AMFA then filed addition submissions, further delaying the process.

The IAM rejected AMFA’s position, however, respected the CIRB process, by delaying issuance of our notice, until the process concluded.

On January 26th, 2026, the CIRB released it’s ruling, denying the request for interim relief put forward by AMFA.

In its decision, the Board states;

“Unless and until the Board grants a bargaining certificate to AMFA, the IAMAW is fully entitled and obligated to represent the employees in the bargaining unit as the certified bargaining agent. This includes administering and enforcing the collective agreement and negotiating and concluding a renewal collective agreement.”

As indicated to our members prior, we have had every intention on proceeding with bargaining on time, and as scheduled.

We commend the CIRB for making the correct decision in preserving those rights.

Therefore, and without further delay, the IAM will be serving Air Canada notice of its intention to commence bargaining. The membership will be advised as soon as this notice has been sent.
We thank you for your patience and continued support during these proceedings.

In solidarity,
Dave Flowers
