Update on Aveos
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
It seems that Aveos is liquidating their business in the same manner that they entered the business, with a story that sheds their responsibility.
The way the company entered into bankruptcy, with their senior management fleeing the country (no doubt with bags of money) without even manning up and making the announcement themselves, is completely unethical. They took a deplorable action, abandoned their employees and their responsibilities.
Aveos then indicated on their website that employees should go to their union for answers on severance pay, once again shirking their responsibility — absolutely no integrity.
Severance packages
The Union’s legal counsel is handling this matter through the legal system. In other words, our lawyers are speaking with Air Canada’s lawyers to determine how these monies will be supplied. We will communicate you the results of these talks as soon as we know the outcome.
Salaries
There is also the problem of our Aveos members not being paid. This is in the hands of the Aveos’s Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), who needs to get permission from the courts in order to issue these pay cheques. We have been advised that he is now going through this process, but that it could take up to one week.
The Union cannot stress how deplorable Aveos has been from the start; it seems that one side blames the other for outcomes that have made our members collateral damage. When it comes to money, don’t think for one minute that either company will give it up freely.
We will keep you informed as we find answers to all the issues. In solidarity,
Tony Didoshak
