YYZ Airports Shop Committee Shift Bid Bulletin

Toronto YYZ Airports Shop Committee

April 4 2023

The WSRC Team has successfully completed the cycling for the upcoming summer bids. We will be significantly increasing the number of full-time jobs and above-basic positions for Summer 2023, relative to last year.

We will be welcoming many employees to above basic positions specifically Lead Station Attendant and Customer Service Agent – Airports. This along with a significant number of new Full-Time Station Attendants cements the rebuild of YYZ Hub.

This growth is yet another testament to the efforts our members have committed to Air Canada during the last several difficult years. Although Air Canada may not be at its full capacity relative to years past; significant flight activity has been added to our international, domestic and transborder markets.

The shift bid team made a vigorous effort to ensure we communicated the importance of maintaining a work life balance and advocating for the upper limits of compressed shifts as per the CBA. Currently, Memorandum of Agreement #12 is in effect, limiting our ability to truly build a schedule based on our wants. Due to the summer 2023 flight schedule and operational peak, the company has transitioned many of our part time staff to AM operations where the scheduled flying is more compactly peaked. It should be noted that historically the number of Part-Time staffs was effectively kept at the Part-Time Cap as governed by the CBA. This allowed an ability to add shifts late evening to support the Full-Time staff in key areas.

Regardless of the above, I must commend our senior management team for meeting with the Committee on multiple occasions to allow us the opportunity to advocate for the membership and collectively come to a fair schedule for our members based on the operational requirements. Bid packages are out and we would like to remind everyone that it is absolutely mandatory to fill out a bid sheet regardless if you are participating in the open bid process.

Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for the hard work and dedication in completing the WSRC by the bid committee. Your efforts have been critical to our success, we appreciate your commitment to maintaining a work-life balance and advocating for our members. Thank You.

In Solidarity,

YYZ AIRPORTS SHOP COMMITTEE TEAM
