District 140 Bulletin: Gantt Meeting

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
WORKING FOR AIR CANADA AND AVEOS

Gantt Meeting

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Members of your Gantt committee met with Air Canada and Aveos management on February 28 to deal with the layoffs that were to take place on March 5, 2012.

After reviewing the Gantt chart (which is a tool used to schedule heavy maintenance events), the discussions revolved around the layoffs and how Aveos can justify these in light of all the work it is currently outsourcing. The union questioned all the layoffs across the country and asked Aveos to justify the centralization of the Buyer Analyst work and the elimination of 75% of the clerical staff in Winnipeg.

The union further addressed the layoffs in the Engine Maintenance Centre and the Component Maintenance Centre, reminding Aveos that it is currently outsourcing the maintenance work on engines, APUs and components.

In addition, the union brought up the statement made by Robert Gogo, the Director of Logistics and Supplies, who declared that the company had laid off two stockkeepers in Winnipeg because they were too efficient.

At the conclusion of the meeting, arbitrator Teplitsky issued a cease-and-desist order, advising all parties that no layoffs are to occur until he hears the case next March 5 and 6.

We will keep you informed on this issue as it progresses.

In solidarity,

Tony Didoshak
General Chairperson
