TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW
AIR CANADA – TMOS
TRANSITION BUMPING/LAYOFFS AND CAW STRIKE
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
As you are aware, your union has been in attendance at the first two rounds of bumping resulting from the transition of our members between Air Canada and Aveos. Round three will take place on June 16.
To support our sisters and brothers of the CAW who are now on strike against Air Canada, we will not fly a struck airline to YUL to meet with the company.
I offered the company to come up with an alternative to enable us to continue to monitor the bumping process while not physically being in attendance. As expected, the company could offer no more than to “take the bus, train or automobile” to attend the meeting.
This company sought all our support and cooperation in 2009 when they threatened bankruptcy for the second time in a decade. They promised us improved labour relations and cooperation because they loved us. I call this BS!
They have just pushed another union on strike. It could very well be us next. So much for respect and cooperation.
We will try to monitor the next round of bumping to the best of our ability though we will not be in attendance. Any anomalies discovered from this round we will fight to correct — up to and including arbitration.
We thank you for your continued patience and support during this very stressful period during which you are forced by Air Canada to make life-altering decisions.
In solidarity,
Gary Sinclair
General Chairperson
