Decision Regarding Douglas Towbarless Towing Operations -2323 Bulletin

July 24, 2012

Attention all TMOS Members

Your Local Lodge has just received a favourable decision from the Occupational Health and Safety Tribunal.

The decision is in regards to a work refusal with the Douglas Towbarless Tractor and operating them with a “DA” Assist.

The Appeals Officer considers that the performance of an activity constitutes a danger to the employee while at work:

Operation of the Douglas Towbarless Tractor with two person crew comprising a “DA” licensed Tow Assist whose training in oirport geography and radio communications lacked equivalency with that of a “D” licensed Tow Operator constitutes a danger within the meaning of the code.
The Tow Assistant’s lack of training in those two areas increases the risk of incursion that may result in injury to the employee.

The full decision is posted on our Local Lodge website  www.iamaw2323.ca

In Solidarity,

Steve O’Hara
President LL2323
