District 140 Bulletin

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW

UPDATE: AIR CANADA / AVEOS CERTIFICATION ISSUE AT THE CIRB

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

This bulletin will serve to update you on what has transpired to this point with the issue of Air Canada and Aveos application to split the bargaining certification at the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).

It has come to our attention that there is some confusion due to the release of a Company document entitled “Transition Options for Eligible Employees”.

To be clear this is NOT an agreed to document between the IAMAW and either Air Canada nor Aveos. If there are any questions regarding this document please see your local manager or team leader.

The process at the CIRB is not finished; in fact it has only just begun.

At this point, we have attended two preliminary meetings with Officers of the CIRB. The first was on August 27th and the second on September 15th. Both meetings were basically to allow the Board officers to get an idea of where the parties stood at this time. There was not a formal panel and no arguments regarding the issues were heard.

In addition, on the 15th of September a meeting was held in Toronto with the General Chairpersons, Local Lodge Presidents and Tech-ops Shop Committee Chairpersons from across the system to inform them about what has transpired up to this point. It is our intention to meet with this group on a regular basis throughout the CIRB proceedings so that they can update you.

The next meeting that is scheduled for September the 20th will be a “Case Management Hearing”.

This meeting will be for the CIRB panel to meet with the parties and their legal counsel to determine the process and dates for further meetings.

The Union has requested that all future hearings be open to the public so that our members can attend.

When we have confirmed dates for further meetings we will communicate that information to the membership.

In solidarity,

Chuck Atkinson

President and Directing General Chairperson
