District 140 Bulletin -YYZ Line Maintenance

NOTICE
ALL lAM YYZ LINE MAINTENANCE

Attached with this notice is an arbitration decision regarding the training of people coming from other stations as a result of the transition bumping and layoff process.

You will note the arbitration award states that LAT and LLAT’s will be assigned to assist in training the transitioning employees.

The Union argued that this is not within your scope as per the Collective Agreement.

The Licensing Agreement signed in 2002 states that you may provide training and coaching to maintenance personnel.

We don’t believe this makes you an Instructor. As well we are not sure how you can be expected to produce work and train at the same time.

How nice! The company wants you to train the person coming in to take your job!

You will also notice the “work now, grieve later” rule applies in this situation.

Should you find yourself in a position of being assigned and you disagree, you have the right to file a grievance on the matter and as always provide as much detail as you can to support the case.

In solidarity,

Gary Sinclair
