Update: Air Canada / Aveos Certification Issue at the CIRB

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE IAMAW

UPDATE: AIR CANADA / AVEOS CERTIFICATION ISSUE AT THE CIRB

Bulletin CIRB 003

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

On November 22nd and 23rd in Ottawa. Transportation District 140 and Representatives from the Local Lodges across Canada attended the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) hearings regarding the applications to split the bargaining units, and, the Union’s Section 35 Common Employer Application.

In addition, at the request of the IAMAW, a video cast of the hearings was made available by the CIRB in the Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver CIRB offices. There will be a review of the actual attendance in these locations to determine whether the CIRB will continue with the video cast for future hearings.

After opening statements by all of the parties Lawyers for AVEOS were directed to proceed with their case by CIRB Chair Elizabeth MacPherson.

AVEOS indicated that they intend to call seven (7) witnesses to support their case that the Heavy Maintenance bargaining unit should be split from the Air Canada Technical Operations unit.

Both days, November 22nd and 23rd were taken up with testimony and cross-examination of the first three (3) witnesses that AVEOS intended to call.

There are additional hearing dates scheduled for November 29th, December 20, 21, 22 and 23rd.

The Union thanks you for your continued support and will provide you with any further information as it become available.

In solidarity,

Chuck Atkinson
President and Directing General Chairperson
