TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
AIR CANADA
OFF-DUTY STATUS
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today, Air Canada advised District Lodge 140 of their intention to place additional
employees on off-duty status as per Article 20.14 of the Collective Agreement. For
now, the majority of the affected Members come from the Atlantic Region and all come
from Airports/Cargo. Labour Relations further advised that additional ODS will also be
applied in Tech-Ops at a later date but did not provide detail.
ODS notices in Airports/Cargo will be sent out starting today with implementation
effective January 11, 2021.
The Union strenuously opposes this action and has advised the Employer that they are
well outside of the statute of limitations to use “force majeure” and the employer’s only
legal rights are the layoff, bumping and recall provisions outlined in Article 16 of the
current Collective Agreement.
The Union has officially demanded a cease and desist and is in the process of applying
for interim relief as per the Collective Agreement and the Canada Labour Code.
The IAMAW is disgusted by your employer’s actions and their continuous lack of
respect for your Collective Agreement rights. Air Canada needs to clean up their act.
Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
In solidarity,
Steve Prinz
