NOTICE IAMAW AIR CANADA MEMBERSHIP EQUIPMENT SHORTAGES AND SAFETY ADHERENCE (SOPS)
CARGO, CABINS, AIRPORTS
AUGUST 30, 2023
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On August 21st, 2023, I issued a bulletin to bring awareness to the shortage of equipment in the Airports
Department, and also to place emphasis on the importance of adhering to all Standard Operating Procedures
(S.O.Ps).
It has come to my attention that equipment shortages are not limited to the Airports Department and have been
impacting various areas of the organization. As a united union, we recognize the significance of these equipment
challenges and stand in solidarity with each one of you. In an effort to ensure all departments are on the same
page, I am issuing this revised bulletin to include all departments that we represent.
We have engaged with the company to highlight this persistent issue and the valid concerns raised by our
members. The company has assured us of their dedication to resolving these shortages.
During this period, we urge all members to promptly communicate instances where equipment shortages hinder
your ability to carry out your responsibilities. Kindly inform both manpower and your manager immediately.
Communication in these instances is vital to protect our members from any liability.
It is imperative to highlight that the company holds the responsibility of ensuring that all employees have
access to the necessary tools and equipment required for their roles (including Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE)). While the company works to address these shortages, our collective commitment to safety
remains unwavering. Adhering to established S.O.Ps is paramount, and under no circumstances should any
member compromise safety by bypassing the use of essential equipment that may be lacking.
The well-being of every individual is of the highest importance. Consistently following S.O.Ps is not just an
obligation but a pledge to uphold a safe working environment. Deviating from S.O.Ps or taking shortcuts could
lead to disciplinary actions against our members from the company. We stress the importance of strict
adherence to these procedures at all times to ensure the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
If any member encounters a situation that jeopardizes compliance with S.O.Ps or poses a safety risk, we urge
you to promptly report this to your manager and the members of the Health and Safety Committee.
We deeply value your dedication to your roles and your commitment to safety. Should you have any inquiries or
concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your shop committee or myself.
In solidarity,
Mahmoud Khatib
General Chairperson
