CHALLENGE TO COMPANY’S DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Committee of General Chairpersons wanted to update you on our ongoing challenge to the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy, particularly regarding its stance on cannabis use.
As many of you are aware, the Union opposes the Company’s position that our members are prohibited from engaging in recreational use of legal substances, specifically cannabis, outside of work hours. While we unequivocally condemn impairment while on the job, we firmly believe that what our members choose to do in their personal time is their own prerogative.
Currently, your Union is actively challenging the Policy through the grievance procedure. We are steadfast in our commitment to advocating for your rights and ensuring fair treatment in the workplace. We understand the importance of this issue and are diligently working to address it on your behalf.
If a member has been affected by this policy, including having been Suspended Pending Discharge (SPD), please reach out to your shop committee to file a grievance.
As we navigate through the grievance process, we will keep you informed every step of the way. Once we have additional information, including dates for Arbitration, we will promptly communicate it to all members.
Your support and solidarity are invaluable as we continue to fight for your rights. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to reach out to your General Chairperson or Shop Committee Representatives.
In solidarity,
Dave Flowers
