TO ALL IAMAW MEMBERS
ALL PRE-BOARD SCREENERS
ESSENTIAL SERVICES INTERVENTION
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) is scheduled to hear the first ever case dealing with the application of the essential services provisions of the Canada Labour Code to airport Pre-Board Screeners.
The IAM & AW has applied for status as an intervener in order to protect the interests of our Screener Members across the country. On February 14, 2013, despite the opposition of CATSA and the Screening Contractor, we were granted intervener status. The Board found that the IAM & AW has “a direct and substantial interests in the outcome, “and also that the IAM & AW may have submissions to make that will assist the Board in furthering the objectives of the Canada Labour Code”.
The Union has the right to attend the proceedings and file written submissions. The case is currently scheduled for hearing dates in March through to July of 2013.
In Solidarity,
Fred Hospes, President and Directing General Chairperson
