District Bulletin #54 – issued July 13, 2011

TO ALL MEMBERS OF TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT 140, IAMAW

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

As per Transportation District 140 Executive Board policy, an e-mail poll was conducted among the Executive Board committee members on the proposals below. After careful consideration, the committee members approved these proposals and General Vice President Dave Ritchie approved our request for dispensation from District 140 By-Laws and Policies and authorized us to proceed.

1. District 140 Women’s Committee. The local lodges attending the District 140 convention may submit the name of a member from their local lodge to act as representative, and the regional caucus will then select a representative for each region. If the     caucus cannot reach a decision, there will be a vote of the entire delegate body as to whom will assume the position in each region. Once   elected, the three regional representatives will appoint a committee chairperson from among themselves.

2. District 140 Political Action Committee. The District 140 Executive Board will ask that each local lodge Executive Board appoint a “political action committee” contact person who will be responsible for coordinating political activities with the other local lodges across the country. Funding will be at each local lodge’s expense.

3. District 140 Full-Time Organizer Positions. After reviewing the resumes of all candidates, we have appointed Brothers Ian Morland and Robert Savoie for another term.
Note: Once we are in a financial position to do so, we will approach the Grand Lodge for funding to appoint a full-time organizer in the Western Region.

4. Temporary At-Large General Chairperson Position. The position in the Central Region has been approved.

5. General Chairperson Realignment. The proposed realignment illustrated below has been approved by the District 140 Executive Board. As usual, nominations will take place at the September local lodge meetings and elections will be held, as per past practice, on the same date across the system following the last local lodge meeting in November.
Note: In addition, subject to acquiring the appropriate funding, the District 140 Executive Board will support the addition of an “At-Large” General Chairperson position in the Eastern and Western Regions.

In solidarity,

Chuck Atkinson
President and Directing General Chairperson
