NOTICE
TO ALL IAM MEMBERS AIR CANADA – YYZ – ACCIDENTS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FREEZING THE SCENE JUNE 12, 2025
Dear Brothers & Sisters,
We’ve noticed a recent increase in workplace accidents where members are not “freezing the scene” afterward. This has led to a rise in disciplinary action, including terminations in some cases.
We want to remind everyone that under AVOP Traffic Directive Article 4.4, if you’re involved in or witness an accident or incident, you are required to immediately report it to the Airport Operations Centre at (416) 776–3033 and management. This applies to:
- Personal injuries or anything with the potential to cause injury
- Damage to aircraft, vehicles, equipment, or property
- Fuel spills
More importantly, it’s not just about reporting — you MUST remain at the scene and AVOID moving vehicles, equipment, or changing anything until the proper authority gives you the go-ahead.
Not following this directive doesn’t just risk your safety, it puts your job on the line. The rules are clear, and they’re there to protect all of us. If you’re ever unsure, call and report. It’s better to be safe than face the consequences. All information can be found on the Toronto Pearson webpage for AVOP.
Let’s stay sharp, stay safe, and take care of each other out there. In solidarity,
Mahmoud Khatib
