TO ALL THE IAMAW MEMBERSHIP AIR CANADA OFF DUTY STATUS GRIEVANCE UPDATE
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Union met with the Company at the end of April, 2024 and beginning of May, 2024, in another
attempt to finalize the “Off Duty Status” grievance that was won by your Union almost three (3) years
ago. Although the first portion of this grievance has been resolved, with many of our affected
members being made whole, the last portion of this grievance has yet to be concluded.
Due to the extensive amount of time that has passed, the Union has reached out to the Arbitrator that
is seized on the grievance to assist in finalizing compensation for the second set of affected
members. There are approximately three hundred forty (340) members across the country awaiting a
conclusion for being improperly placed on ODS in 2021. The company has made a commitment to
giving us their final position on June 3, 2024. Depending on what is proposed in their offer of
settlement, the Union will respond accordingly.
To be clear, the question of whether a violation has occurred has been disposed of and your Union
has already had the grievance upheld at Arbitration. Should your Union not obtain a just and
equitable monetary settlement for the affected members, in line with Arbitrator Schmidt’s award, the
question of remedy will be sent back to the Arbitrator immediately to be settled.
The Committee of General Chairpersons understands the frustration with finalizing this matter and the
protracted amount of time the company has taken. We appreciate your continued support and hope
to have this matter settled in as short of time as possible.
